His mother died shortly after the census in 1901. 1911 census...Charles [19] was still in Kentford with his widower father. He married in Newmarket in 1st quarter 1915 Annie Mary BRIDGE The pension card gives his widow as Annie Mary (b.27/11/1891),of Jarvis' Yard, Newmarket with a daughter Lena May (b 6/5/1915) |
Enlisted in Newmarket. The Newmarket Journal reported that Charles had no wounds and was judged to have died of shock. The 9th Suffolks were "enjoying" a quiet spell behind Ypres at St Jean-les-Ypres at the time, stirred occasionally by shelling and sniper fire. Charles was one of only three 9th Suffolks killed that week |
